BIOGRAPHY

Catherine Bailly-Cazenave is a French photographer based in Paris. After a career in advertising and communications, she decided to devote herself to photography. Her approach is intuitive, minimalist, sometimes documentary, and always guided by emotion. With an academic background at the École du Louvre, her vision is shaped by artistic and visual references.

Her series focus on contemporary architecture, urban landscapes, fragments of transforming places, and discreet scenes where the human figure become a graphic element. Color, often pastel, plays a central role in her photography, contributing to the storytelling as much as the subject itself.

Fascinated by the United States, a land of contrasts and vastness, she enjoys photographing silent, timeless places, deserted motels, forgotten gas stations, empty parking lots or fragments of nature.she strives to capture the atmosphere of these spaces, sometimes inhabited, often shaped by a quiet sense of waiting.

Catherine Bailly-Cazenave's photos have been exhibited in France and abroad (Paris, Saint-Tropez, Kobe,New-York) and featured in several publications such as Openeye, Opale Art Contemporary Magazine, ADFPHOTO, L'Oeil de la Photographie..

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores spaces in transition, places marked by silence, absence, and memory. I seek to capture what lingers in the in-between : fragments of stories that unfold through light, color, and form. Photography allows me to freeze those fleeting moments where time seems suspended.

Color is central to my artistic language. It's not a decorative layer but a vital emotional register, a way to translate the invisible into something felt. Composition plays a key role as well, minimalist frames, graphic lines and subtle details help convey a quiet tension.

Influenced by art history and cinema, I approach each image like a still from a film; a fragment of a larger narrative, unresolved and open to interpretation. My photographic style embraces slowness, contemplation and a certain poetic distance from reality.

Through this visual vocabulary, I aim to evoke more than I describe. My images invite the viewer to drift, to pause, to listen to what is left unsaid. they are not about spectacle, but presence.

Currently, I continue to explore American landscapes and their traces, looking for beauty in what fades and meaning in what remain.
